The exhibition has been visited by about 1000 people, including many relatives and descendants of Middlemore children. There are many of these in the Birmingham area, for various reasons:
- Some families in desperate circumstances had to choose just some of their children to be sent to Canada while others stayed here.
- Some children were returned to England “for cause” by the Homes. This was often girls who had become pregnant.
- Some children returned as adults a result of enlisting to take part in the First or Second World Wars
- Some children voluntarily returned as adults.
