Visitors to the Exhibition

The exhibition has been visited by about 1000 people, including many relatives and descendants of Middlemore children. There are many of these in the Birmingham area, for various reasons:

  • Some families in desperate circumstances had to choose just some of their children to be sent to Canada while others stayed here.
  • Some children were returned to England “for cause” by the Homes. This was often girls who had become pregnant.
  • Some children returned as adults a result of enlisting to take part in the First or Second World Wars
  • Some children voluntarily returned as adults.
